FAQ * doterra * Essential Oils *
Since August 2016 I am collaborating with a very respected Essential Oils brand "DoTERRA" using those wonderful Essential Oils and products and consulting people. I am happy to answer questions on doTERRA's products and essential oils, which can be effectively used for health, immune system, beauty and other uses. These EOs are 100% natural pure therapeutic grade essential oils with a lot of scientific research behind them.

Frequently Asked Questions:
1) What makes doTERRA Essential Oils stand out from other brands?
Buying EOs in a drugstore or from a brand which has no or little scientific research and testing means you can't be as positive about the equality of the products and possible effects on your health and wellbeing as from a company that puts a lot of effort into every stage of producing EOs. Quality of EOs depends on a lot of factors, including WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW.
DoTerra Essential Oils are carefully distilled from plants that have been patiently harvested at the perfect moment by experienced growers from around the world for ideal extract composition and efficacy. You can check the website of the independent leading specialist in the EO chemistry Dr. Pappas who performs a lot of tests to compare different brands and EOs, and speaks highly of DoTerra oils quality.
DoTERRA's EOs are quite subtle in flagrancy and seem more refined in quality then some other brands.
Each doTERRA essential oil is also carefully and thoroughly tested using the strict CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® quality protocol. Experienced essential oil users will immediately recognize the superior quality standard for naturally safe, purely effective therapeutic-grade doTERRA essential oils.
While there is a science to the distillation of essential oils, it is also an art. Distillers not only rely on years of experience, they also employ modern technologies and techniques. Read more about distillation.

2) How can I use doTERRA essential oils?
DoTERRA essential oils use depends on the type of oil. Please study carefully information on doTERRA's official website and in recognized books, and ask questions to your doTERRA Wellness Advocate (contact) or certified aromatherapist. Depending on the type, EOs can be used for / as: - Boosting immune system - First Aid remedies - Relaxation, stress management, headache relief - Beauty & Youth - cosmetic purposes - Pregnancy & Parenting - Pets / Animals (pain relief, natural treatments etc.) - Perfumery purposes * aromatic enjoyment - Culinary purposes (only doTERRA EOs of certain type and with proper knowledge, avoid very high temperatures for preserving the oils' quality), please keep in mind that MANY EOs can't be used internally! - Everyday cleaning (to help reduce the use of chemical cleaners) - insect repellent - gardening - and some other uses... |
3) What is the recommended dilution of EOs?
Most EOs require diluting for topical, internal use and EOs use for cleaning. Information on the dilution ratios can be somewhat confusing in the articles online and books. However each brand usually recommends their dilution recommendations. Please make sure to keep the total amount of drops per day within the maximum dose, and drink a lot of pure spring water to help the EOs get their healing work done and leave the body. Dilution ratios depends on: - type of EO - brand / company (= quality) - type of use (purpose) - age of the person - personal sensitivity to EOs and preference and experience (NB: Patch test is recommended for EO sensitivity) * it is possible to dilute more than the minimum recommendation because of the personal sensitivity or preference or to save some EOs and apply more product on the affected area, for example a joint. Carrier oils on their own can also be beneficial for the body when applied with proper knowledge and for a purpose). ** for perfumery use in homemade soaps and other bath & beauty products amount of EOs can be very small. Recommended Dilution Amounts for DoTerra EOs >> "The Ideal Amount column states how much total essential oil a user should take at a time. This amount can be repeated every 4-6 hours, for amounts no greater than the 24-hour Maximum amount. Internal use refers to taking essential oils in a capsule or a softgel form. Oral use refers to essential oils taken in water or other liquid, or under the tongue. There is no recommendation made for aromatic use, as this greatly depends on the size of the room and other variable factors. As always, moderation is best. These are general recommendations that don’t take into account the individual health and experience levels of the user. doTERRA essential oils are very potent and each individual will react differently to them. It is important to be aware of one’s own unique health circumstances and adjust accordingly. A key point from Dr. Hill’s presentation is that we should be more moderate with our essential oil use when our health is in anyway compromised." |
Please be mindful in using Essential Oils, do not use EOs internally or topically if you are not sure it is allowed or whether the quality of the EO is good (therapeutic) enough (e.g. EOs purchased from amazon and other online market places). Do not improvise without proper knowledge and treat them as natural medicines when the difference between 1 drop and 2 drops can be quite significant.
Consult a certfied aromatherapist for recommended uses of EOs and dilution ratios.

5) Packaging & Storage
Unopened DoTERRA's essential oils have shelf life of 5-10 years depending on the type of oil and conditions of storage (please also check the expiry date on the bottle of your EO). After opening the bottle, EO's expirty date depends on the type of EO. As a rule of thumb (assuming that EOs were stored in proper conditions) citrus EOs have 6-month life (due to their higher volatility), conifer EOs usually can last 5 or more years, and all other oils including blends with citruses (like OnGuard) can last around 2 years.
